DayZ Stand-Alone Being Developed By Bohemia Interactive

Dean 'Rocket' Hall, creator of the DayZ mod for Arma II just confirmed over Twitter and Tumblr that the stand-alone version is on its way, and being developed by Bohemia Interactive (the developers of Arma II) with him taking the role of project lead. 'This is the fairy-tale outcome for a mod that many would have said impossible four months ago' says Hall.

The game will adopt a business model similar to Minecraft, i.e. 'fast iterations with the community alpha available for a heavily discounted price'.

The mod has recently reached over one million players, and has resulted in Arma II being in Steam's top sellers for many months now, even during the Steam Summer Sale when it did not receive as drastic a discount as many games, including many AAA ones.

The standalone version of the game will be available sometime before Christmas, but for now the mod is available for free for anyone with Arma II and its expansion pack Operation Arrowhead.
